The zoo is an inland outing to consider when you want a break from the beach routine. Plan around the current keeper-presentation and animal-encounter schedule rather than assuming every experience runs throughout the day.
General admission and animal encounters are different purchases. The zoo lists animal adventures and giraffe feedings as separate add-ons, with availability affected by weather. Check current encounter rules before promising a particular experience to children, and plan for an outdoor visit.
GULF SHORES & ORANGE BEACH · WALKING & CYCLING
Gulf State Park trails
The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail network gives you paved routes and boardwalks through coastal habitats. Choose a named starting point, such as Lake Shelby or Rosemary Dunes, from the official park map before you leave. “Gulf State Park” covers more than one entrance, so a general park address may not get you to the trailhead you want.
Start with the distance your group wants to walk or ride, then use the map to make an out-and-back or connected route. The park lists bike-rental options and dawn-to-dusk trail access. Bring water, plan for the weather, and give wildlife space. Seeing a particular animal is never guaranteed.

Have an indoor plan ready
Decide whether you want a shorter indoor activity in Gulf Shores or a larger ticketed outing in Foley. A place with some indoor attractions is not necessarily an all-weather experience from beginning to end.
GULF SHORES · INDOOR ACTIVITY
The Factory

The Factory offers indoor trampolines, climbing, foam pits, batting cages, and games. Its ticket portal distinguishes jumping, climbing, and combined experiences, so choose the activity your group actually wants rather than assuming everything is included.
Check the current calendar and waiver requirements before leaving. This is the option to consider for an active indoor break without making the outing a trip to Foley.
FOLEY · INDOOR WATERPARK
Tropic Falls at OWA

Tropic Falls is a bigger waterpark outing north of Gulf Shores. The indoor waterpark provides a weather alternative to the beach, while the accompanying theme-park rides and other outdoor areas have their own operating conditions.
Check the date-specific calendar, ticket inclusions, and ride or slide height requirements before buying. Tropic Falls admission is separate from simply visiting Downtown OWA, and an operating indoor waterpark does not guarantee that every outdoor attraction is open.
ORANGE BEACH · AN EVENING OUT
The Wharf

The Wharf brings Main Street shops, dining, a marina, and a mix of attractions into one Orange Beach outing. Consider dinner followed by a movie, a Ferris-wheel ride, or a scheduled SPECTRA light show, depending on the current calendar.
Individual merchants and attractions have their own hours and charges. A concert at the amphitheater is a specific ticketed event, not something included with a casual visit. Check the live schedule before choosing an evening around a show or ride.
Build a flexible day
Keep an inland day inland. Choose the zoo or The Factory, then use Kitty’s Kafe or the condo kitchen for a meal. You do not need to drive to the beach district just because you’re in Gulf Shores.
Give a larger outing room. If Tropic Falls is the main plan, choose your ticket and check its calendar before scheduling another timed activity. For a smaller change of pace, a trail walk can be paired with time back at the community pool.
Choose one evening destination. The Wharf and Cobalt near Perdido Pass are both in Orange Beach, but they are separate destinations. Check the routes before combining a dinner reservation or seating request with a show time.
