Gulf Place is the main public beach where Highway 59 meets the Gulf. Restrooms, rinse showers, open-air pavilions, and the grassy Town Green make it a useful first stop when you want a straightforward beach setup. The city also provides beach-access mats here.
This is the option to consider when lunch at The Hangout is part of the same outing. Park in a visitor-designated space, bring what you need for the sand, and plan your meal before your parking session runs out. Restaurant seating and public parking are separate arrangements.

Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion

The pavilion has picnic tables, accessible ramps, and climate-controlled bathrooms with showers. It is a practical choice when you want to bring lunch from the condo’s kitchen and have facilities to rinse off before getting back in the car.
Food concessions are seasonal, so check the park’s page before relying on a snack stand. Beach parking is paid, and the park states that a daily pass is valid at its other beach accesses. That is a state-park pass, not a city parking payment.
Pay for the right parking area
For city beach lots, use the zone number on the posted ParkMobile sign. Gulf Shores changed its parking rules in July 2026, so older visitor guides may describe a different fee structure. Check the current city page and the signs at the lot you actually use.
East Gulf Place is resident-permit-only. Do not treat it as overflow visitor parking. Choose a public visitor lot and confirm your vehicle’s location before paying.
At the state-park pavilion, follow the park’s posted payment instructions. City and state-park payments cover different parking areas, so a receipt from one should not be treated as permission to park at the other.
Before you unpack the beach bag
Check current surf conditions and the flags when you arrive. Double red flags mean the Gulf waters are closed to the public; an absence of flags does not mean conditions are safe. The city recommends swimming in protected areas when lifeguards are present.
Gulf Shores public-beach rules prohibit glass containers and pets on the sand. Larger tents and canopies have restrictions and designated areas, so check the rules before loading a shelter into the car. Take your gear away when you leave and use marked access paths.
Put the day together
Beach and lunch: choose Gulf Place, then use the restaurant guide to pick a meal in the beach district. Keep your parking end time in mind if lunch turns into a longer stop.
A packed-lunch beach day: use the full kitchen before leaving Colony Club, head to the pavilion, and bring drinking water and the supplies you want for the day. The showers are useful before the drive back.
If the weather changes: choose an indoor option from the rainy-day guide instead of assuming a covered restaurant patio or an outdoor attraction will solve the problem.
